The poster scan that doesn't take your photo with it
Famora reads the date, time and place from a poster, flyer or school notice — and the text recognition runs right on your phone. The photo only leaves the device if you explicitly allow it for a more accurate recognition. And even then it is only evaluated, never stored.
A note on the daycare door, a flyer from the sports club, the invitation to a child's birthday party: Famora photographs it, reads out the date, time and place, and suggests the finished event to you. The convenient part is familiar. The important part is what happens to the photo along the way — and the answer is: as little as possible.
The text recognition runs on your device
When you scan a poster, your phone itself looks for the date, time and place — right there on the spot, without sending the image anywhere. For a clearly readable notice, that is all that happens: the event is created, the photo stays on the device, and our server has never seen it.
The photo only leaves the phone if you want it to
Some notices are photographed at an angle, ornately styled or poorly lit, and the recognition on the device isn't enough. Then — and only then — we offer to transfer a downscaled copy of the photo to our server one single time, for a more accurate evaluation. That is your decision, not something automatic.
And even then nothing is kept
The downscaled copy is evaluated once, to recognize the event — and discarded afterwards. No photo archive, no database row, no silent backup. The image lives only as long as that one request and disappears with it. What remains is the event that you see and confirm.
Why we built it this way
A family calendar sees along with what fills your everyday life — and a photo of a school notice can reveal more than just an event. The most sparing way to handle it is not to move the image at all. That is why the order at Famora is the reverse of what many apps do: first on the device, then ask, then — at most — a copy that is deleted again right away.
The scan is part of Famora from the Premium tier onward, together with dictation and read-aloud. But the privacy rule behind it applies to everyone: we process what is necessary, and keep nothing that need not be. No advertising, no reselling, hosted in Germany.
